Battlefield High School

Haymarket is our home base, which means instructor availability is strongest here. Our office is at 14950 Washington Street #202, right in town near Washington Street and Route 55, and scheduling usually starts within days of registration.

We pick up and drop off students at Battlefield High School for every appointment. Students in Bull Run Mountain Estates, Piedmont, and nearby Haymarket neighborhoods can also ask about alternate pickup. If you still need the classroom step, see the driver education section below.

Where Haymarket Students Practice Driving

Haymarket gives students a broader mix of road types than most suburban service areas. Training here can move from downtown streets to school traffic to interstate ramps and rural roads in one local cycle.

  • Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) - The main road through town. Students practice speed management, turning at controlled intersections, and sharing the road with larger vehicles heading toward The Plains and Thoroughfare Gap.
  • Washington Street and Old Town Haymarket - Right outside our office. Good for parking, slow-speed control, and downtown-style pedestrian awareness around the shops and restaurants in Old Town.
  • Heathcote Boulevard - The commercial corridor connecting Route 15 to Dominion Valley and the Regal Haymarket area. Students practice lane changes, left-turn timing, and parking-lot entries during the busier afternoon hours.
  • James Madison Highway (Route 15) - Runs north from Haymarket toward Gilbert's Corner and south past Battlefield High School. Students practice higher-speed two-lane driving, passing-zone decisions, and the specific merge patterns at Route 15 and I-66.
  • School zones around Battlefield High School - Prince William County runs automated speed-camera enforcement in active school zones. Students learn to spot flashing lights, check posted times, and adjust before the zone, not inside it.
  • Residential neighborhoods - Reading street signs, school-zone speed management, and practicing three-point turns in Bull Run Mountain Estates, Piedmont, Villages of Piedmont, Heritage Hunt, and the streets around Old Town Haymarket.
  • I-66 on-ramps at Exits 40 and 43 - Students learn to merge, change lanes at speed, and build highway driving confidence on the same ramps they will use to commute toward Manassas, Fairfax, and beyond.
  • Routes toward the Manassas DMV - I-66 East and Route 29 are the two common approaches to the DMV at 9800 Godwin Drive, where most Haymarket students take their road skills test. Practicing the real approach removes test-day surprises.
  • Rural roads toward The Plains and Fauquier County - Winding country roads with limited visibility, hills, and varying speed limits. A different skill set than the suburban grid, and one that matters for local driving.

Our instructors know the local intersections, merge points, and problem spots in Haymarket. Students practice in the same areas they will continue using after they get their license.

Driver Education in Haymarket

Haymarket students can choose either the live classroom format at our office or the online driver education option. Both cover the same 30-hour DMV-approved curriculum. The in-person class is a good fit for students who want structure and a scheduled pace, while online works better for families who need more flexibility.

Because our office is in town, Haymarket families do not need a separate meetup point for the classroom course. Students come straight to 14950 Washington Street #202 for in-person sessions. The classroom course is the first step for teens under 18 before they can complete behind the wheel. Adults 18+ can also take it to waive the 60-day permit holding period and the DMV road test.

How Haymarket Families Typically Use Our Programs

Most Haymarket teens follow the same sequence. They start with driver education, either in person at our Washington Street office or online if after-school sports and clubs make a fixed class schedule hard. From there, they work through the 45-hour practice driving log on local roads like Route 55, Heathcote Boulevard, and Route 15. Once the log is complete, they move to behind the wheel with pickup at Battlefield High School and finish the course in about a week. The final session includes the road skills test at the Manassas DMV.

Adults 18 and older skip the classroom requirement and go straight to behind the wheel. That path is especially common for Heritage Hunt residents refreshing their driving skills and for new Northern Virginia arrivals converting a license from another state or country. Either way, the in-car training happens on Haymarket roads with an instructor who already knows the area. Check out our teen license timeline for the full permit-to-license process.

Why Haymarket Families Choose Abba

Most driving schools treat Haymarket as the far edge of a Northern Virginia service map. We do the opposite. Haymarket is the headquarters, the original office, and the area our instructors drive every day. That shows up in three concrete ways.

First, our office is in Old Town Haymarket at 14950 Washington Street #202, not a regional pickup point. You can walk in, register in person, drop off paperwork, and attend driver education or driver improvement in the same building. Families from Heritage Hunt, Dominion Valley, Piedmont, Bull Run Mountain Estates, and Villages of Piedmont are all within a few minutes of the office.

Second, Haymarket has the strongest instructor availability of any area we serve, so scheduling usually starts within days of registration. We pick up directly at Battlefield High School for every behind the wheel appointment, which means teens can go from class straight to lesson without another round-trip across town.

Third, the lesson routes are built around the roads Haymarket students actually use: Route 55, Heathcote Boulevard, James Madison Highway (Route 15), the I-66 ramps at Exits 40 and 43, and the Manassas DMV approach via I-66 East or Route 29. If you are comparing options, our Gainesville, Bristow, and Warrenton pages describe how we set up each of those areas. The Haymarket version is the one that runs directly from our headquarters, with the shortest path from registration to a scheduled start.

Since our office is in Old Town Haymarket, the in-person class is a good fit for residents across Haymarket, Gainesville, and Bristow who prefer a single scheduled day over self-paced online work. Learn about removing demerit points or how the course satisfies court-ordered requirements.

Call (703) 754-4444 to confirm the best pickup point for your address.

Where do Haymarket students take their Virginia road test?

Most Haymarket students take their road skills test at the Manassas DMV at 9800 Godwin Drive, Manassas, VA 20110, about 20 minutes from Old Town Haymarket via I-66 East or Route 29. At Abba, the road test is the final session of the behind the wheel course, so your teen takes it with the same instructor who trained them, in the same training vehicle they have been using all week. See how to pass the Virginia road test for the full scoring breakdown.

How much does behind the wheel cost?

Behind the wheel costs $340 at Abba Driving School. That covers all 7 appointments, a DMV-certified instructor, a training vehicle, the road skills test, and the Driver Training Certificate (DTS-B). No hidden fees. The bundle with driver education is $540. See our pricing page for a full breakdown.

Can I take driver education online?

Yes. We offer online driver education for $200, and we also offer in-person classes at our Haymarket office for the same price. Both satisfy the same Virginia DMV requirement. If you are deciding between them, our comparison page explains the scheduling and convenience tradeoffs.

Is the driver improvement course available online?

Yes. The online driver improvement course costs $100, the same as in-person. You complete the 8-hour course at your own pace, and your completion is reported to the DMV within 24 hours. In-person classes meet at our Haymarket office on weekends. The course satisfies court-ordered requirements and can help remove demerit points from your record.

What do teens need before starting behind the wheel?

Teens need a Virginia Learner's Permit, a signed Driver Education Certificate of Completion, and a driving log with at least 45 hours of practice (15 after sunset). Adults 18+ only need a Learner's Permit. See our requirements guide for the full list.

Can I walk in to register at your Haymarket office?

Yes. Since our office is right on Washington Street in Old Town Haymarket, you can walk in during business hours to register, ask questions, or drop off paperwork. You can also register online or call (703) 754-4444. We're open seven days a week.

How quickly can my teen start behind the wheel in Haymarket?

Haymarket has the strongest instructor availability of any area we serve because it's our home base. We can often schedule a start date within a few days of registration. Summer months fill faster, so registering in May or June gives you the widest choice of dates.

Can adults in Haymarket take behind the wheel?

Yes. Adults 18 and older can take behind the wheel without completing driver education first. You just need a valid Virginia Learner's Permit. Adults who want to waive the 60-day permit wait can also complete driver education first. This is a popular option for residents of Heritage Hunt and other communities across Haymarket who are refreshing their driving skills. Read our adult driving lessons guide for full details.

Which Haymarket neighborhoods do you serve for pickup?

We coordinate pickup at Battlefield High School, our Washington Street office, or at your home across Haymarket. That includes Bull Run Mountain Estates, Heritage Hunt, Dominion Valley, Piedmont, Villages of Piedmont, Old Town Haymarket, and the communities along Heathcote Boulevard, James Madison Highway (Route 15), and Route 55. Call (703) 754-4444 if you want to confirm which pickup point is closest to your address.

What kind of roads do Haymarket students practice on?

Students practice on Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) through town, Washington Street and Old Town Haymarket, Heathcote Boulevard near Dominion Valley, James Madison Highway (Route 15) toward Gilbert's Corner, residential streets in Piedmont and Bull Run Mountain Estates, rural roads toward The Plains, and I-66 for highway driving. This mix covers every road type and skill on the Virginia road test.

What happens if my teen fails the road test?

They can retake it. If a student fails once or twice, we offer additional practice sessions before the retest. If a student fails three or more times, Virginia requires a behind the wheel re-examination ($550), which includes 12 hours of extra driving instruction. Read our guide on what to do after failing.

What happens after driver education?

Teens usually move on to behind the wheel after they have their permit and required practice hours. Adults may use driver education to skip the 60-day permit waiting period and the DMV road test.
