Adults can begin individual behind the wheel lessons with a valid Virginia Learner's Permit. Bristow has a growing adult learner population, particularly in the Braemar and Victory Lakes communities where residents relocating from out of state or returning to driving after a long break need a Virginia license. Our Bristow-area instructor, Mr. Wayne, works with adult students the same way he works with teens: pickup at Gainesville HS, one-on-one instruction, and a familiar training vehicle. Check the licensing requirements for your age and license date.
After passing the school-administered road skills test on the 7th appointment, an eligible teen receives a Driver Training Certificate (DTS-B) the same day. Applicants whose licensing path requires a DMV test can use the Prince William/Manassas DMV at 11270 Bulloch Drive.
Adults can begin individual lessons with a valid Virginia Learner's Permit. The classroom, permit-holding, and final-test requirements depend on age and license date. Check the current adult licensing paths before choosing a program.

Driver education in Bristow is the 30-hour DMV-approved classroom course Virginia teens need before their Learner's Permit and behind the wheel training. Bristow families can take driver education online at their own pace or in person at our nearby Haymarket office, which is a short drive from neighborhoods along Bristow Road, Linton Hall Road, and the communities near Patriot High School. Either format satisfies the full state requirement.
In Bristow, the decision often comes down to schedule. Students with packed afternoons, sports, or long school days at Patriot High School often choose online driver education. Families who want a live instructor and a fixed class schedule usually prefer the in-person course at our Haymarket office.
Once the classroom requirement is complete, many Bristow students continue with behind the wheel, where pickup is available at Gainesville High School.

Most Bristow teens follow the same sequence. They start with driver education (online is the most popular choice for Patriot High School students with busy schedules), then work through the 45-hour practice driving log on local roads like Bristow Road and Nokesville Road. Once the log is complete, they move to behind the wheel with pickup at Gainesville HS and finish the course in about a week. The final session includes the road skills test. See our teen license timeline for the full permit-to-license process.
Our Bristow setup is different in three concrete ways. First, free pickup at Gainesville High School means Bristow families don't need to drive to our Haymarket office for behind the wheel. Second, Mr. Wayne is the Bristow-area instructor, so students are not handed to a rotating schedule of people who do not know Linton Hall Road's roundabouts or the Route 28 speed changes at the Bristow Road transition. Third, lesson routes include the busy corridors around the Manassas DMV, giving students practice with multi-lane traffic and controlled intersections outside their most familiar neighborhood roads.

They can retake it. If a student fails once or twice, we offer additional practice sessions before the retest. Read our guide on what to do after failing.
