How to Get Your Learner's Permit in Virginia

A learners permit will allow a teenager to drive while under the supervision of an adult at least 21 years of age or older. To get a learner's permit, Virginia law requires you to be at least 15 years and 6 months of age, and to also have the permission of their parent or legal guardian. Here are the necessary steps:

  • Complete an Application for a Virginia Driver's License . If you are under age 18, your parent, custodial parent or legal guardian must provide written consent by signing your application. A court order showing that you are an emancipated minor is acceptable in lieu of written consent.

  • Pass a Vision Screening .
  • Pass a 2 part knowledge exam .

Navigating the driving DMV rules and VA laws can be very difficult and it's easy to have questions. Abba Driving School has a clear understanding of every step in the process of how to get your license, whether you are a teenager or an adult. We have answers for all of your questions about Behind the Wheel, or how Driving Points work. We want you to know that we care, and can be easily reached at (703) 754-4444.
