Driving School in Haymarket, VA

Haymarket is where Abba Driving School started in 2007, and it's still our home. Our office is at 14950 Washington Street #202, right in the center of town near the intersection of Washington Street and Route 55. Because Haymarket is our base of operations, scheduling is easy and we have the most instructor availability here.

We pick up and drop off students at Battlefield High School for every behind the wheel appointment. Students living in Bull Run Mountain Estates and other neighborhoods in the Haymarket area can also arrange pickup.

Where Haymarket Students Practice Driving

Haymarket gives our students a great mix of driving environments. Here's what training looks like for Haymarket students:

  • Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) - The main road through town. Students practice speed management, turning at controlled intersections, and sharing the road with larger vehicles heading toward The Plains and Thoroughfare Gap.
  • Washington Street - Right outside our office. Good for practicing parking, slow-speed maneuvers, and navigating a quieter downtown area with pedestrian crossings.
  • Residential neighborhoods - Speed management in school zones near Battlefield High School, reading street signs, and practicing three-point turns in communities around the town center and Bull Run Mountain Estates.
  • I-66 highway practice - The interstate runs just south of town. Students learn to merge, change lanes at speed, and build highway driving confidence on the same road they'll use to commute.
  • Rural roads toward The Plains - Haymarket's proximity to Fauquier County means students can practice on winding country roads with limited visibility, hills, and varying speed limits.

Our instructors know every intersection and turn lane in Haymarket. Students practice in the same areas they'll actually be driving after they get their license.

Yes. We schedule behind the wheel appointments seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. Haymarket is our home base, so we have the most instructor availability here. Evening appointments are also offered.

How long does each behind the wheel appointment last?

Each appointment is at least 1 hour and 40 minutes. Your teen spends about 50 minutes driving and 50 minutes observing another student drive. Haymarket lessons typically cover Route 55, Washington Street, and residential streets near Battlefield High School during each session.

What should my teen bring to their first lesson in Haymarket?

Three things: payment (cash or check made out to "Abba Driving School"), a photocopy of their Learner's Permit, and their signed Driver Education Certificate of Completion (the pink sheet). The instructor will pick up your teen at Battlefield High School or at our office on Washington Street.

What's the difference between behind the wheel and driver's ed?

Driver education is the classroom course that teaches traffic laws, road signs, and safe driving principles. Behind the wheel is the in-car training where your teen actually drives with an instructor. Virginia requires both for teens under 18. Driver education must be completed before behind the wheel.
